Error Installing SilverStripe on a Shared Hosting cPanel Server

Question:

I’m trying to install SilverStripe v4.4.3 on a cPanel Shared Hosting Platform but it gives me the following:

URL rewriting support You need mod_rewrite to use friendly URLs with SilverStripe, but it is not enabled.

The mod_rewrite is enabled by default on cPanel servers (https://forums.cpanel.net/threads/enable-apache-mod_rewrite-question.596331/) and I’ve also tested this module through a test .htaccess file which works as expected. I did some digging around on the internet and found a couple of answers to this but so far none of them have worked. I’ve tried:

  • Renaming/removing index.php from the public directory
  • Modifying the permissions on .htaccess/index.php/install.php to read 644

Would anyone happen to have a solution to this?

Did you find a solution for that? Because I have the same problem, and tried also all that things like you mentioned. And none of these are working for me.

I have an additional issue with AllowOverride All.
