Windows installation

I am new to the Silverstripe CMS, although I have worked with the Yii2 framework.
My first observation, sadly a common one, is the almost total Linux orientation. Windows appears to be an afterthought, and not much of that. I am Windows and IIS, to me a basic and simple configuration. I find the documentaion severly lacking in many respects for a firest time installation and configuration for a first time user. Here are a few issues:

The documentation appears to be oriented to V4 of the CMS. It is not stated that the version of the CMS that is installed is determined by the version of PHP that is active. PHP V7.4.x gives you Silverstripe V4.13 and PHP V8.2.x gives you Silverstripe V5.03

The documentation at location https://www.silverstripe.org/learn/lessons/v4/up-and-running-setting-up-a-local-silverstripe-dev-environment-1 presents what appears to be an HTML form that nicely shows the results of some kind of requirements check. There are no details as to where this is or how to invoke it. Consequently, I have stumbled along a learnt the hard way what is required to reach the initial form of the example project/app/theme - the language is still confusing me.

I would be happy to share my experiences offline if anybody is interested, but the initial steps are made more difficult than necessary and could be avoided with improved/correct/compete documentation.
I now have a schema, with user access, and can see the first page of the website. Now for the next step. Any guidanc as to better documentation than I have found would be appreciated.
